While I'm debating whether or not to get a Lomo Diana Dreamer Camera, I found out about this worldwide photography competition. It doesn't seem to be a difficult competition, does it? Just like the philosophy behind lomography: it's not difficult to shoot with a Lomo camera. The results though, I have to say, are quite random. It's random. It's fun.

I think I just attended the most dreamy wedding on Friday. I always have mixed feelings when I attend a wedding. The main reason is: I don't believe in marriage. Since I volunteered to help out on the wedding day of this couple, my friend Phoebe's dance teachers, I had the chance to witness the whole wedding ceremony and party. So there we were, all dressed up nicely, waiting at the Kits Beach 9am for the bride's arrival. The groom was there already, with his best man and friends, all in white shirts and suits. I even noticed that their teeth are so white when they smiled...About an hour later, the bride showed up with her father at the other side of the lawn. They slowly walked towards the beach, where friends and family awaited...and of course, there's her husband-to-be after their 11 years of partnership. As the groom and bride finally stand together, face to face, everyone cheered. The picture in front of everybody is probably the one we have in mind when we read a fairytale: the prince and the princess both look so beautiful and fit. What a perfect match! And with the mountains, sea, and blue sky in the background, the scene can't be any more graceful. They started to say their vows. I was standing at the very back of the crowd, drawing random shapes on the sands with my foot. My mind was blank. This whole atmosphere was too wonderful to be real. Their evening party was awesome. It's probably the best party I have ever seen. Almost every guest can dance! There wasn't any single awkward moment when everyone was too shy to step in the dance floor and shake their body. Salsa, Waltz, Cha-cha...or whatever the dance was, they all know their steps. All I could do was just eat, drink, and watch. And then, the perfect couple put on their ballroom outfit, started their "first dance". Everyone's eyes fell on them when they danced...It was so natural and elegant that you'd think they were born for each other. This night, the floor belongs to them. They are not only dance partners, but also soul mates. Such lucky couples...how many are there in the whole world? Their parents all seem healthy and caring, and get along well with each other. This whole wedding...is too perfect to me. It's too perfect that it reaches a level that contradicts my belief in marriage: marriage is unnecessary and sabotages the relationship between two families. A wedding like you see in the movies. Who doesn't want to have one? Someone might think the wedding is cheesy enough, but when it's real, I don't think it's cheesy. It's the most, most, most fabulous wedding I could've ever attended. Thank you, bride and groom.

For those who loves books, Kindle, an Amazon's new wireless reading device, may have or have not come to your attention. Yes, it's like an iPod, instead of music, you download e-book, e-magazine, e-everything to Kindle. It's a bridge that brings us closer to a digitalized lifestyle. Whether you embrace the idea or not, the sales* for Kindle and its titles appear to increase: PEOPLE LOVE THIS NEW TOY. While the birth of Kindle might forecast more trees saved in the future, what about those bookstores who sell books in print? What about the book fairs where booksellers and publishers hold books in their hands and exchange ideas? Are they supposed to be happy because they can cut down a substantial amount of shipping cost? Or should they start to worry that more and more people can download e-books at home, and eventually bookstores will become empty shells people won't visit anymore? Maybe the environmental friendly Kindle will not go that far, but it is going to be a trend that more print material become digital even if there's no Kindle. It is going to be different in the new era of publishing industry, and they have to find a balance between being "green" and keeping genuineness of books. As a book lover, will you buy Kindle to save trees, or will you not to save personal touch?

每當我告訴人家研究所要念 publishing--出版時, 大家一致都給我個皺眉, 接著反問, "huh? 出版??" 是的, 就是ㄔㄨ出, ㄅㄢv 版, 出版。總之, 這個為期只有16個月的 program 是專門訓練培養出版人才的, 從總編排版設計至行銷刊物, 通通都包。不過今天的重點不是要介紹這個 program, 而是要在事後兩星期正式宣告: "我申請上碩士班啦!!" 而且是在同個 SFU Publishing Department 上班後的第二天就得知這好消息, 真是雙喜臨門耶~~(歐並不是結婚又生子的雙喜) 說到在學校工作, 又是在 "right-brain oriented" 的環境之下, 跟之前在倫敦的律師事務所比較起來簡直像是人間天堂 vs. 人間煉獄。想想看, 在自己的辦公室聽音樂工作 vs. 在全公司離老闆全透明辦公室最近的辦公桌背對老闆工作; 面對 20 吋 i-mac 永不當機的電腦 vs. 面對 14 吋遲鈍緩慢死當活當常常跟你過不去的 PC; 網路世界 all access vs. hotmail gmail facebook 通通被賭; 餓了就吃累了就去散步不時還有 instructor/director 等長輩比賽做菜請你吃 vs. 所有吃喝跑廁所運動全天被監控... 唉呀~料想不到有天我居然會這麼說, "I LOVE my job!" p.s. 我還是很努力工作的!

Fears: Realty v.s. Dream

It's not the first time that I dreamed about something that I fear the most...these dreams just keep coming back. And no matter how I scream and cry in the dreams, it's useless. Usually I just wake up with tears (yes, real tears) and thank god it's just a dream. I wonder if this is normal for everyone...or subconsciously I just have fears about something in reality. But I'm sure it's not a subconscious thought. I do realize how much I fear about something. And how difficult it is for me to trust people.

1. 明天起又開始當上班一族, 為 SFU Summer Publishing Workshop 的 Research Assistant. 到 8 月 6 號為止, 輕鬆迎夏天。 2. Why are some mothers so freaking PARANOID?? 最近不知為何成為媽媽朋友間的 university consultant. The questions they have in common are: “什麼科系出來最有出路/好找工作/最熱門??" "你覺得我兒子/女兒應該怎麼做?" Excuse me? 這些事情應該是你小孩自己決定吧! 如果還問什麼科系可以出人頭地, 你帶小孩子來加拿大唸書念假的喔? 那我想跟你說, 我覺得念美術很讚, 你叫你小孩去念吧! 3. 以前有個世界...還挺美好的。那就是沒有手機的世界!! Nothing would be interrupted, when you're in the middle of a conversation, in the middle of sleep, in the middle of SOMETHING!! 4. We all laugh at cheesy scenes in the movies, making fun of them. But then, do we forget about how to be ROMANTIC?? Or romance just doesn't exist in reality? Yes, it may not be practical being romantic, but if it's about being practical all the time, I don't think the world is beautiful.

又是個晴天霹靂。受夠了又能怎樣? 從以前到現在不知失望多少次。真希望有個地方可以讓我到垃圾, 一個人家不會當作一回事卻又會聆聽的地方。否則, 今天又不知要傷了誰? 或許我該當個啞巴。或是沒感覺的植物人。讓我想想發洩的方式: - 買一堆巧克力蛋糕和 chips 猛吃 - 自行拿小刀刺青 - 用頭撞牆十下 - 躲在廁所大哭一頓, 眼睛不腫不停明天的此時, 我大概就會清醒了。到時候, 我的心會冷一些, 這樣就比較不痛了。

去過英國的人大概不會不曉得 Top Shop, 也應該都目睹過它的風采。沒去過的人, 只好請你逛逛它們的網站過過乾癮, 然後你就會怨嘆它們為什麼沒有送貨到加拿大來的服務了! Top Shop 針對的年齡層從少女至熟女都有, 風格廣至可愛成熟性感帥氣, 要有什麼就有什麼; 除了衣服之外, 鞋子包包內衣褲和你能想到的飾品它們也一手打造, 要是你去 Top Shop 倫敦旗艦店逛, 包你逛一間就可以手軟腳軟, 其他店甭去了。相較之下, 溫哥華本地出產的 Aritzia 就遜色許多。這也不能怪它們, 一來它們起步慢, 二來溫哥華當地的設計師也較倫敦少, 所以要它們每一星期都有新產品出來, 目前是不可能。但是! 最近去逛了逛它們家和 tna, 我實在是失望透底! 風格還是一樣, 只是換了個顏色或花樣, 變化之小實在是不吸引人。一件普普普的 tank top 就要 $50+, 好哇, 等 H&M 開張大吉它們就知道, 這類的產品可以撤櫃了, 除非溫哥華的女性朋友都是崇尚牌子選購衣裳的。看看 Aritzia 網站的 fashion show, 嗯...是很北美, 不過這樣的穿著 Old Navy 也可以辦到, 還幫你省 co co。我說啊, 在溫哥華血拼還真的是挺灰暗的, 不過對我這個窮光蛋來說, 到哪兒都一樣, 還是 window shopping 最實際。
